ALI LOMAS - DERBYSHIRE BASED PHOTOGRAPHER
A Modern Maternity Portrait That Blends Strength, Style + Stillness.
A soft + poetic nod to the nature surrounding and the quiet unfolding of motherhood - grounded, tender and powerful in it's simplicity. My maternity photography is a quiet, elegant celebration of transformation — crafted with intention and emotional depth. It’s not about perfect poses or fleeting trends; it’s about capturing the strength, softness, and sacredness of becoming. Each session is styled with care — cool, refined, and timeless — designed to feel more like an editorial portrait than a traditional maternity shoot. With a focus on natural light, calming environments, and authentic moments, I create heirloom-quality images that honour both the woman and the journey.
This is maternity photography that moves with you through life — honest, beautiful, and enduring.

Featuring one of my earlier maternity photo sessions.
In a quiet corner of cultivated wildness, amidst sculptural leaves and sun-washed walls, one woman stands in quiet power. Waiting in a cream suit — sharp, structured, and undone just enough — her presence is both commanding and tender. This is not the maternity photography of decades past. This is intentional, editorial, and everlasting. The session resists sentimentality in favour of something more enduring: truth, framed with elegance. Her hand resting lightly over her growing silhouette, a glimpse of lace softening the tailored lines — the styling speaks of duality. Power and softness. Expectation and presence. Identity and transformation. The backdrop — all texture and succulents — breathes life and feels like a metaphor for motherhood itself: wild, layered, beautiful in its imperfection. The aim isn't for perfection, but permanence. An heirloom in years to come of the moment in waiting. This is maternity reframed. Not posed, but poised. Not just a memory for the baby — but a message to the woman herself: You were here. You were powerful. And you were entirely, beautifully you.
Maternity photography at ALILOPHOTO was inspired by her own motherhood, becoming a mummy to a beautiful little girl. It made sense, offering her fine art background to a portrait of a mother-to-be. It didn't knowingly start as a business decision, but as a pull. A quiet knowing that this season, this transformation, deserved to be seen differently.
So much of what I saw felt performative or overly styled — missing the gravity, the softness, the truth of what it is to carry new life. I wanted to offer something more grounded. More timeless. I wanted women to feel powerful, present, and seen — not just as expectant mothers, but as full versions of themselves in that exact moment. Motherhood is not a pause on identity — it’s an expansion of it. And my lens honours that. I started photographing maternity to create heirlooms — not just for the child to look back on, but for the mother herself. A reminder of her strength, her beauty, her transformation.
These sessions are quiet. Intentional. Styled with care and purpose. We hold space for softness and vulnerability, yes — but also for confidence, calm, and quiet pride.
That’s why I photograph maternity. Because these moments matter. Because she matters.
Tips on Motherhood & Maternity Photography by ALILOPHOTO
1. Dress for you, not just the photo.
Choose pieces that feel comfortable, confident, and timeless — natural textures, soft tones, tailored simplicity. Your clothing should feel like an extension of your identity, not a costume.
2. Embrace stillness.
Some of the most powerful images happen in the quietest moments. A subtle gesture, a breath, a glance downward. You don’t need to perform — just be.
3. Include the connection.
Whether it’s with a partner, a child, or simply your hand resting gently on your bump — emotion lives in connection. We don’t pose it. We witness it.
4. Location matters.
I often recommend places that reflect calm, space, and light — somewhere you can breathe, move, and feel present. The setting should support the story, not distract from it.
5. Think heirloom, not trend.
We create images designed to last — to sit framed in your home for decades, not just shared in a fleeting scroll. We aim for depth, not decoration.
6. Trust the process.
You don’t need to know how to ‘model.’ My job is to guide gently and create an environment where you feel safe to be yourself. That’s where the beauty begins.
